What is broken before we arrive
Expiry, not theft, is where the stock goes
Studies of public health facilities in developing countries put medicine wastage between roughly 3.7% and 10% of value, and one Ethiopian study of 17 facilities attributed about 98% of it to expiration. The drugs were paid for. They sat in the wrong building.
There is no mechanism to move near-expiry stock
Researchers name the absence of an inter-facility transfer mechanism as a leading cause of wastage. One hospital holds stock it will not use while another twenty miles away runs out of the same item. Nothing connects the two ledgers.
Cold chain and provenance are recorded on paper
A temperature excursion nobody logged, a batch nobody can trace, a price nobody benchmarked. Each is a small failure. At national scale they compound into a budget line.

A pharmaceutical intelligence platform for Guyana's Ministry of Health, covering drug expiration tracking on a first-expired-first-out basis, AI-driven redistribution of near-expiry medications between hospitals, and cold chain monitoring across regions.
GS1 barcode verification establishes what a batch actually is, and price benchmarking runs against WHO and PAHO references so procurement can see when it is paying above the international line.
An interoperability layer connects EHR systems, MMU warehouses and pathology departments, and demand forecasting runs across the national health network. The platform reaches more than 400 facilities.
How the build runs
Establish one ledger
Facilities, warehouses and departments have to agree on what a batch is and where it is before anything can be moved intelligently.
Make expiry visible before it matters
FEFO tracking with lead time built in, so a near-expiry flag arrives while there is still time to move the stock.
Automate the redistribution decision
Match near-expiry stock against forecast consumption at other facilities and propose the transfer, with a human approving it.
Connect the rest of the network
Cold chain telemetry, GS1 verification, pathology and EHR interoperability, each added once the ledger underneath is trusted.
